The Happening That’s Happening From the IE to the OC in June 2017!

If you are like most of us here at Kessler Alair Insurance you work hard to play hard. For many of us filling our weekends with fun family activities is first priority when we clock out on Friday evening. Summer is finally here and our families are looking for fun things to do. Having our offices located in Newport Beach, Rancho Cucamonga and Upland California gives us a wide variety of events to choose from. Of course one of the best things about Southern California is the fact that you can go snowboarding in the morning and sit on the beach to watch the sunset all in the same day.

Whether you are in the Inland Empire or in Orange County and you are looking for a great thing to do this month here are a few ideas:

What to do in the Upland and Rancho Cucamonga area?

Thursdays – Summer Concerts – Every Thursday located at Veterans Park, 17255 Merrill Ave. In Fontana. The Summer Concert Series are eight free, open air concerts that will take place every Thursday night starting June 8, 2017 through July 27, 2017. Join us under the summer stars and dance to a different band each week! Remember to bring a chair, blanket and your dancing shoes. June 9 – July 29 – Dive-In Movies – All swimmers must wear proper swim trunks. No denim, basketball, jersey or cotton shorts or t-shirts permitted in water. June 4 - Claremont Artisans and Farmers Market – 8:00 am – 1:00 pm – FREE – located on W 2nd St between Indian Hill Blvd. and Yale Ave. Voted best farmer’s market in the Inland Empire (Los Angeles Times, 2012), the Farmers & Artisans Market was founded in 1996 to connect California farmers and artisans to the local community, and features over 100 grower and artisan members sharing their goods and services throughout the year. June 8 – A Dynamic Display of Armstrong Community Center Artists – 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Join the Museum in celebrating local residents enrolled in courses at the City of Ontario’s Armstrong Community Center. Meet the artists and learn how you can sign up for an art class at the Armstrong Community Center. Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Free Admission. Auto Club Speedway – The Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) is located just five minutes from Rancho Cucamonga. You can enjoy NASCAR races or attend various other events that are scheduled throughout the year.

Sam Maloof Residence, Workshop & Gardens – Located at 5131 Carnelian St., Alta Lorna. Sam Maloof was America's most widely admired contemporary furniture craftsman. You'll enjoy visiting his historic residence, workshop and gardens located at the foothills of Rancho Cucamonga. Public tours of the Maloof residence are available twice weekly, and special group tours are available by appointment. The residence, workshop and gardens are operated by the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts. Sam Maloof was entirely self-taught. Maloof's work has even been exhibited in the Smithsonian.

First Saturday of every month - Kid's Club at Michael's – They craft, you shop. Kids 3 and up and enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2 for project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event. From 11:00 – 1:00 pm.

Every Thursday Morning – Preschool Storytime @ Barnes and Noble – in Rancho Cucamonga – from 12:00 noon – 12:30 pm. For children 18 months – 6 years old. Cost is FREE. It's storytime in the Barnes and Noble Children's department every Thursday morning. Just show up.

Every Tuesday – Pajama Storytime at Biane Library – one session at 6:00 pm and a second session at 7:00 pm. This evening storytime is open to the whole family. Enjoy singing songs and hearing stories designed to amuse and entertain children ages 2-12. Children are welcome to come in pajamas. Storytime for the whole family. Walk-ins welcome. Every Wednesday – Discovery Club – Archibald Library – 4:00 – 4:30 pm. This program is specially designed for school-aged children from 6 – 12 yrs. of age. If your child is curious, adventurous, creative or looking for fun, come join us as we experience stories hands on through exploration, discovery and creativity. Walk-ins welcome! Every Tuesday & Wednesday – Little Learners – Archibald Library – This storytime focuses on caregiver and child (ages 19 months – 30 months) bonding through rhymes, music, stories, playtime and early literacy tips. Adult Literacy Program – The Rancho Cucamonga Library Adult Literacy Program provides free literacy services to the local community. Adults who wish to participate as a student or as a volunteer tutor can contact the Literacy office at 909.477.2720, ext. 5009.The program can help English speaking adults learn and/or improve their basic reading, writing, computer and life skills. Volunteer tutors work with adults to improve reading and writing skills.

First Saturday of every month - Home Depot's Free Kid's Workshop. This month's activity: "Build a Rain Gauge". Attend the FREE Kid's Workshops on the first Saturday of every month! Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill sense of pride and accomplishment. All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement. Where: Home Depot - All locations! When: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. Mary Vagle Nature Center. 11501 Cypress Ave., Fontana, CA. It's so fun to have a family day out in nature! There is so much to explore for active families. You can enjoy a lovely walk along the nature trail which winds around the pond. Kids can have a great time spotting the local wildlife, or seeing if they can find the native plants currently in bloom. Or, for that extra learning experience, you can venture into the center itself and discover all the exhibits of the local animals, plants, geology and history. Mother Goose on the Loose. Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:00 noon at the Archibald Library Story Theater in Rancho Cucamonga. This is a fun, fast-paced storytime geared for children ages 0-3 years and is filled with rhymes, songs, lap-bouncers, movement, and of course classic Mother Goose rhymes. Walk-ins welcome. 5 on 5 Basketball League - Men & Women - Sunday and Monday evening leagues are available for both recreational and competitive players of all ability levels. All games are played at the RC Family Sports Center. Registration is taken as a team. Call 909.477.2785.

Free Computer Classes - Archibald and Biane Libraries offering free classes covering a variety of computer-related topics such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-Bay, Google and basic computer skills. Classes at Archibald are on Tuesdays at 6 pm and at Biane Library on Wednesdays at 6 pm and 1st Saturday of the month at 10 am.

Drop - In Art - All ages are invited to stop by and enjoy the Art Depot art supplies for a fun and creative time. Every Saturday - Fontana Farmer's Market - 8:00 am every Saturday morning. Residents enjoy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables available every week at the Market. The Southland Farmer's Market Association (SFMA) has committed to bringing Fontana residents nutritious, in-season produce so residents have even more opportunities to make healthy food choices. Upland Afterschool Adventures – 3:30 – 4:30 pm at the Upland Public Library, 450 N Euclid Ave. In Upland. For ages 5-9. Cost is FREE. After-schoolers will be able to hear great stories, enjoy crafts and have refreshments each week. This program lasts approximately 1 hour. Registration is not required.

First Thursday of every Month – Mom's Club of Upland South Park Playdate – From 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – For the whole family at Sierra Vista Park, 430 E 15th St. in Upland. Shark Lagoon Nights – The public is invited to get up close with the ocean's ultimate predators at the Aquarium of the Pacific for FREE during the Shark Lagoon nights. Guests will have the opportunity to touch bamboo sharks and see large sharks such as sandtigers as well as rays in the Aquarium's Shark Lagoon. Almost every Friday – but some Fridays are excluded. Harvey Mudd College's Homework Hotline – Students in grade 4 – 12 are offered FREE math and science tutoring service. The program reinforces concepts and helps students develop better problem – solving skills. We are committed to guiding student callers through their math and science homework questions, Sunday through Thursday, from 6-9 pm. June 11 – Free Family Day @ Orange County Museum of Art – Located at 850 San Clemente Drive in Newport Beach. This event includes a series of multi-generational creative environments using everyday materials to explore structure, space, and optics with visiting artists of Formation Association. Visitors may also observe a demonstration by exhibiting artist Carmen Argote, experience performances by Compass Dance, as well as an interactive storytelling and music workshop by Aristea & Josinaldo. The Burger Monster food truck will be onsite for dining options. Suitable for ages 2 – 17.

June 17 – Cultivating Gardening Skills – Fruit Trees – Summer Pruning Methods – 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Location: South Coast Research and Extension Center. This hands on workshop series offers gardeners opportunities to learn and practice new skills. The series is wide-ranging, and covers current topics of interest. Each workshop will be held at South Coast Research and Extension Center, 7601 Irvine Blvd. in Irvine. The cost for the workshop is $20.00 per person. June 25 – Reading in the Redwoods at Environmental Center - Join us for a “Tree Hug Hike” out to the Redwood Forest with Valerie Bain. Valerie will read Andrew Henry’s Meadow, written and illustrated by Doris Burn. Afterward children and their adults will work to create a village together! Parents remain with children at all times. June 25 – Summer Program for Kids at Mariners Library – In Newport Beach. The Newport Beach Public Library will kick off the 2016 Summer Reading Program beginning June 25 at the Central Library and the three branch libraries, Corona del Mar, Balboa and Mariners.

The Children’s Summer Reading Program will run from June 26 to August 12 with the theme “Reading by Design” Special programs, featuring magic shows, crafts and entertainment will be held weekly at the four Newport Beach Public Library locations:

Ongoing Events in Newport Beach/Orange County Area

Kayak Tours @ Newport Aquatic Center. 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Reservations required. One of the best ways to appreciate Upper Newport Bay is to get out on the water, experience the tranquility and see pelicans, terns and egrets flying by you. And if your eyes are quick, catch a glimpse of mullet jumping out of the water. Kayaking or canoeing in the Newport Bay is fun and easy. Newport Bay Conservancy offers a 2 hour guided tour. Corona del Mar State Beach – Swimming, surfing, volleyball, fire rings. Corona del Mar is a popular place for swimmers. The half-mile long sandy beach is framed by cliffs and a rock jetty that forms the east entrance to Newport Harbor. The beach is also popular with surfers and divers. Amenities: 3 Barbecues, parking lot, 5 picnic tables, restrooms, showers, volleyball court, water fountains, ocean view. Orange County Museum of Art – The Orange County Museum of Art enriches lives through modern and contemporary art. Environmental Nature Center - 1601 E. 16th St., Newport Beach. Founded in 1972, the Nature Center is known to thousands of visiting students through the years as the "ENC". It is a fascinating combination of 15 California native plant communities, wildlife habitats, walking trails, Free museum and children's play/learning center. Family Storytime - Every Saturday starting September 5 from 10:30 am - 11 am at the Central Library , 1000 Avocado Ave. in Newport Beach. Enjoy family time with stories, songs and a craft especially for children from 3-7, along with their favorite grownups!

Every Saturday and Sunday morning beginning September 5 and continues year round. One of the best ways to appreciate Upper Newport Bay is to get out on the water, experience the tranquility and see pelicans, terns and egrets flying by you. Kayaking is fun and easy. The Newport Bay Conservancy offers a 2-hour guided kayak tour of the Back Bay in the heart of Newport Beach. This is great for novice and the experienced. They will make several stops on the way. Rain cancels the event. Where: Meet at the Newport Aquatic Center. When: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday. Who: Ages 8 and older. How: RSVP to 949.923.2269. Cost: $25 per person.

Sunset Cruise - Newport Beach, Every night. Choose from 1 of 2 cruises. The Fiesta Newport Beach Cruise includes live Latin Music, complimentary chips and salsa and an unlimited drink special of $15. The Newport Beach Sunset Cruise will also include the beautiful sunsets of Newport Beach. Each cruise is 1 1/2 hours. You will tour Newport Bay as well as the famous Newport Beach coastline.
